Current Work
I am a public health researcher specialising in psychology and behavioural science. I lead the Double Dividend of Safety Project, funded by Lloyd’s Register Foundation, which examines how improving safety conditions can promote healthier behaviours across countries. I also manage Urban Futures, an interdisciplinary research group at Northumbria University focused on improving health and wellbeing in urban areas. I also work in the Psychology and Communication Technology (PaCT) Lab at Northumbria University on digital health projects, and I have held fellowships with the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology and the Alan Turing Institute. Finally, I am a non-practising solicitor, and writer for Psychology Today. Background After studying philosophy at the University of Warwick, I qualified and practised as a solicitor in the North East of England. I then spent several years teaching English in Vietnam and Spain before returning to the UK to pursue a career in health research. My doctoral work at Northumbria University examined how perceptions of risk influence health behaviours, and I have since continued to work at the intersection of psychology, public health and policy. |
